KAILUABOUND FIELD GUIDE

A little less rush. A lot more Kailua.

Start with the beach, make room for the town, and leave time to do nothing.

Explore beyond Kailua

Choose a town day, a North Shore wander, or a west-side afternoon from Kim’s Oʻahu favorites—the list she shares with visiting friends.

Your first day in Kailua

Kailua sits on Oʻahu’s windward side. Build your visit around one beach, one meal, and a little time in town rather than trying to fit the whole coast into an afternoon.

Start at Kailua Beach

Take a walk, find a comfortable spot, and watch the water before deciding whether to swim or paddle. A beach day is still a good day when the conditions keep you on shore.

Give Lanikai its own moment

Visit with a light footprint: keep beach access paths clear, respect homes and driveways, and take everything you brought back out with you. Don’t assume a residential street is a visitor parking lot.

Spend time in town

Leave room for breakfast, a casual lunch, or a browse around local shops. It’s a useful pause between outdoor activities, especially when the weather shifts.

Plan around conditions

Choose your beach and ocean activities on the day, not just from a photo. Check the official ocean safety information and follow posted warnings and lifeguard advice.
