Paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply watching the shoreline. Start with conditions and your comfort level.

Choose the experience, then the equipment
Paddleboarding
A good fit for a short session close to shore when conditions suit your experience. Balance, wind, and getting back to your starting point matter more than how far you travel.
Kayaking
Consider a guided trip if you’re new to the area or offshore paddling. Ask about the route, conditions, instruction, and what happens if a trip needs to change.
Questions to ask before booking
- Is this route appropriate for my swimming ability and paddling experience?
- What instruction and safety equipment are included?
- What are the wind, surf, and cancellation policies?
- Does the trip require an island landing, and is access currently permitted?
- What’s the plan if someone tires out or conditions change?
Never make reaching an island the measure of a successful day. A shorter route or a beach walk can be the right choice.
Check the day, not just the forecast
Review Hawaiʻi Ocean Safety, speak to a lifeguard or qualified local operator, and follow closures and posted advice.
An operator to compare
Kailua Beach Adventures
Kailua Beach Adventures lists guided kayak trips, kayak rentals, paddleboard rentals, and SUP lessons from its Kailua Road location. Compare the guided and independent options against your experience, then ask the operator which route fits the day.
