KAILUABOUND FIELD GUIDE

Paddleboarding in Kailua

A practical starting point for a session that fits your experience.

Keep your first session simple

For a first visit, choose a short session with instruction and a clear return plan. Being comfortable on a board in flat water doesn’t automatically prepare you for an ocean breeze or changing swell.

Before you rent

Tell the operator honestly about your experience and swimming ability. Ask where they recommend you paddle that day, what equipment they provide, and how to get assistance. Let them explain the appropriate flotation and leash setup for the conditions and equipment.

Before you launch

Keep energy for the return

It’s easy to keep paddling when the board is moving comfortably. Turn around while you still have plenty of energy and check whether the wind has changed. If the day doesn’t suit your ability, stay ashore or choose another activity.

Make the call locally

This guide helps you plan; it cannot assess today’s conditions for you. Check official ocean safety information and ask a qualified local operator before entering the water.
